MLB: Kershaw vs. Scherzer

Who is the best pitcher is baseball right now? The Nationals' Max Scherzer or the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw?

The Nationals' ace Max Scherzer is in the middle of his age thirty two season and has been nothing but dominate this season. Scherzer seems to get better every season he plays and at the break has had maybe one of his most impressive starts to a season yet. Scherzer is second in the league in strikeouts with 159 and is leading the ERA category with 2.10. He also has led his team to 10 wins and has a staggering WHIP of 0.779. Scherzer is also set to make his second All Star game start and has made his fifth All Star team.

The Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw is also off to a hot start. In the middle of his age twenty nine season Kershaw has showed his consistency yet again. Leading the majors in wins with 14 and is third in the strikeout category with 159. He has the second best ERA at 2.18 and the second best WHIP at 0.887 in baseball. Kershaw recently made his seventh straight All Star team.

Both of these pitchers are top five in every major statistical category this season and have been nothing but phenomenal. These two give their teams a chance to win every single time the step on the rubber. As of right now Scherzer's statistics give him a slight edge for the year as a WAR of 5.0 to Kershaw's 3.8  and thirty two point better opponent batting average sets him above his comrade. Scherzer has the edge but it is meager, but just for the year. Career wise, no current pitcher can compete with Kershaw, his numbers are all time and he has secured his spot in the Major League Hall of Fame as he has ten seasons under his belt. Kershaw beats Scherzer in career wins, losses, ERA, WAR, SO's, IP and WHIP on less games started. He also has a MVP, Gold Glove, pitching Triple Crown and has more Cy Young Awards.

As of right now the better, hotter pitcher is Max Scherzer. The better career player is Clayton Kershaw. If Scherzer's dominance continues we will likely see a repeat NL Cy Young Award winner.
